Michigan State University has established Minimal Operating Standards for all youth programs. These include the following policies:
In case of an emergency, each College of Arts and Letters youth program has provided parents/guardians with a central number at which the program director can be reached.
A parent, legal guardian, or other responsible adult who needs to pick up a student from the program early needs to be on the student’s registration form as approved for student pick-up.
In case of an emergency or problematic student behavior, College of Arts and Letters youth program directors will contact parents/guardians at the phone number(s) they provided during the registration process. Students may be removed from a College of Arts and Letters youth program for any violation of MSU’s expectation for student behavior including, for instance, the following:
- possession or use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, fireworks, guns, and other weapons.
- leaving campus during a youth program, unless as a program activity
- violence of any kind
- sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and other sexually inappropriate conduct
- harassment in violation of the University Anti-Discrimination Policy
- hazing and bullying (physical, verbal or cyber-bullying)
- misuse or damage of University property (participants may be financially responsible for damage or misuse of University property)
- digital recording devices in showers, restrooms, locker rooms, or other areas where privacy is expected by participants
If a participant, group leader, or other individual associated with a College of Arts and Letters youth program is alleged to have violated University policies or conduct rules of the program, that individual will be removed from the program while the issue is being investigated.
